(1) The age-old debate over Constitutional rights versus public safety raged Monday night at a public hearing concerning an executive order announced by Mayor Heep that bans guns from all Pulltown city property.
(2) “The city’s parks, community centers and events are safer without guns. We can’t wait for another incident, another innocent victim," said Mayor Heep.
(3) Heep proposed this executive order, which bans guns from all property owned by the City of Pulltow, in repsonse to the injury of three people at the May 24 shooting at the Folklife Festival in Pulltown. This order is controversial because some residents of Pulltown feel that it violates the Constitutional right to bear arms.
(4) "I have the right to protect myself, whether it’s at home or in public,” said Keri Calender, a West Pulltown resident who is "trying to protect the right to keep and bear arms in America."
